March 21st: Maiden Diner + Loving Hut

Maiden Diner on Yam

Location: Taipei Underground Mall (Y28 I think...@_@; It's toward the end of the mall, far away from all the respectable institutions ;P )

Disclaimer: We are not otaku in the Western sense.
That being said, maids are f*ckin' adorable and why WOULDN'T you want to go to a cafe with a ridiculously curiously pink train sub-theme and be served cute food by the most adorable waitresses this side of the East China Sea?!  That's right, even the food is cute. Although I was famished and forgot to get pictures of the cute part...but there are some great photos on ABC Lolita of all the moe moe tabemono you can handle.

Also, Gracie had a point card that was almost full~ so we got to fill it up and play a game with one of the maids!

The Brains Behind this Most Epic Scheme: GRACIE!
There are a couple maid cafes in Taipei, and this is one of the best: delicious food (it's a fooding place -- the food BETTER be good), ADORABLE maids (way cuter than the place across the hall -- no buggy-eyed ho-makeup maids here), few creepers (didn't spot any when we were there!), and great service!

More pics after the jump!

Gracie got an ice cream coffee, waffles, and something else that I'm forgetting 'cause there's no photographic evidence.

I got the vegetarian mushroom gratin set.  The gratin was amazingly good, if a bit carb-heavy, though that's the be expected of a pasta dish.  It came with a drink and dessert.  I think I got some sort of milk tea and a milk pudding.  They were fantastic, whatever they were.

A view of my gratin, and Gracie out-moe-ing the maids.
Tai got the chicken sandwich, which, according to him, is one of the most delicious sandwiches in Taipei.  It also comes with a scoop of the most AMAZING potato salad: creamy, robust, bursting with fresh potato and carrot and balanced with tiny bits of perfectly cooked egg.  Unfortunately, you can't get the potato salad on its own, otherwise we'd just get buckets of the stuff -- it's that good.

This photo accurately portrays Tai's feeling for his meal set.
Oh yeah, I brought Gracie some liquor-filled chocolates from the compassion field.  Here she is posing with them so I can sneakily get a picture of the maid in the background!
We are ninja.
Later that evening I had tutoring, and the mom treated me to dinner at Loving Hut, a chain of vegan restaurants.  Each one has different offerings, and it's one of the rare veg places that also does Western vegan (a.k.a. with onions and garlic et. al).  I've read wonderful things about their desserts, and have been to one of their San Jose-area locations (fantastic!) so I was pretty excited.

This one was in an alley off Zhongxiao East Rd. Sec. 3 'round the Fuxing area.

Raspberry Cream Cake-Pie Thing!
A rich and satisfying cream cake/pie thing.  The raspberry part was just jam, which was kinda disappointing but unsurprising.
I'm guessing cornstarch as a thickener, but I couldn't figure out the cream part.  Maybe coconut cream? Whatever, it was great!

Crust!

Appetizer: Breadsticks and Ranch
The ranch was tangy and creamy in that sort of low-fat creamy way -- guessing more starch thickener.  The toast was toasty :D

Potstickers Galore
This was ENORMOUS!

BEHOLD THE ENORMITY!
I couldn't finish it and ended up bringing some home ^_^
Delicious potsticker.
I felt super-spoiled at the end of the day!  So grateful to everyone for all the nummy food and memories~! /corn ;P
